JMF TEAMS INFORMATION

Ironman Western Australia and the Official Charity, the John Maclean Foundation (JMF) are pleased to hold this special event in conjunction with Ironman Western Australia - the "John Maclean Foundation Teams Event".

This special teams event will be held on Saturday 5 December 2009 and will take place at the same time and on the same course as the Ironman Western Australia Triathlon. Ironman Western Australia is the only Ironman event in the world that has a Teams Event component, putting it in a class of its own.

TEAMS INFORMATION & RULES -PRE RACE

  1. A team can be made up of 2 or 3 people and any combination of male and female athletes is permitted;
    a. the swimmer to complete the 3.8km swim course
    b. the cyclist to complete the 180.2km bike course
    c. the runner to complete the 42.2km run course
  2. Cut Off Times:
    a. Swim - 2 hours 15 minutes after Teams Race Start
    b. Bike - 10 hours 15 minutes after Teams Race Start
    c. Run - 16 hours 45 minutes after Teams Race Start
  3. Should a Team swimmer and/or cyclist fail to complete their leg within the cut off time the Team will be allowed to continue in the event but will be classified as Did Not Finish (DNF). Where the swimmer misses the cut off, the cyclist will be the last competitor to commence the bike leg; where the cyclist misses the cut off, the runner will be the last competitor to commence the run leg and the Team will be classified as Did Not Finish (DNF).
  4. Should a Team runner fail to complete the course within the cut off time the Team will be classified as Did Not Finish (DNF).
  5. Trophies will be awarded to the winning team in each of the following categories:
    a. All Male Team
    b. All Female Team
    c. Mixed Team
    d. Corporate Team
  6. Each Team member will receive a "JMF Teams Competitor Souvenir Medal" provided the team has not been disqualified. Team members will be required to return their medals if the Team is subsequently disqualified by the Race Referee after finishing.
  7. Online entry form must be completed and payment received by close of entries - 23 October 2009 . A Team Captain is to be nominated to complete the online entry form on behalf of the Team.
  8. To enter as a "Team - TA member", all 3 competitors must be TA members with no exceptions.
  9. It is the responsibility of the Team Captain to ensure all team members are acquainted with each other's personal details and contacts for emergency purposes and be fully aware of the entry and waiver conditions.
  10. All Team members should acquaint themselves with the Competitor Information Booklet applying to all competitors in the Ironman race which is available for download on the Ironman WA website.
  11. Substituting of Team members will be allowed up to 27 November 2009 and must be advised in writing to the Race Organisers on or before, Friday 27 November 2009.
  12. If a team member of a 2-person team withdraws on or after Friday 4 December 2009 the entire team will be withdrawn and no refund of Team entry will apply.
    If a team member of a 3-person team withdraws on or after Friday 4 December 2009 the team can elect to compete as a 2-person team but cannot substitute another person to replace the withdrawn competitor. If the team elects NOT to compete as a 2-person team the entire team will be withdrawn and no refund of Team entry will apply.
  13. Teams will be identified on Race Day by:
    a. Swim - separate "Teams" start and special coloured swim caps
    b. Bike - yellow Race bib with race number prefixed by "T" e.g. "T001"
    c. Run - yellow Race bib with race number prefixed by "T" e.g. "T001"
  14. $150 from every Team entry is a direct donation to the John Maclean Foundation and is tax deductible. Please email Trent Taylor for a tax receipt - trent@synergysport.com.au
  15. Each team will receive one Registration kit bag which will include sponsor information and promotional material, JMF T shirts (sizes available are S M L and XL-and as nominated on the entry form) and items required for race day i.e. swim cap, race bibs, timing chip, bike number sticker, helmet number sticker, reflective tape etc.
  16. The team entry fee includes entry to the Awards function on Sunday 6 December 2009 for each member via their individual Team Competitor Wristband. Please note that entry to the Carbo Party on Thursday 3 December is not included in the entry fee.

TEAMS -INITIAL REGISTRATION Wednesday December 2 & Thursday 3 2009

  • ALL team members MUST personally register on either Wednesday 2 December 2009 (12-5pm) or Thursday 3 December 2009 (9.30 am-4.30 pm)
  • All Team members MUST present photo identification as part of the Registration process. The Team members must be the persons advised to the Race Organisers as at 27 November 2009.
  • Registration will be held in the Registration marquee, Ironman Village , Barnard Park , Marine Terrace, Busselton
  • The first Team member to register (preferably the Team Captain) will collect the Team Registration Kit bag and be responsible for distributing the relevant race material to other member/s except for the individual competitor ID wrist band. NB each Team member must present photo ID at his/her individual registration when his/her competitor ID wrist band will then be attached.

  • TEAMS- BRIEFING and ORIENTATION

Friday 4 December 2009

  • ALL Team members must attend the compulsory Competitor Race Briefing which will be held at 9.30am on Friday 4 December in the Function Marquee in the Ironman Village .
  • Following the Competitor Race Briefing ALL team members must attend a Team Orientation at the Teams Assembly Area Marquee located at the rear of the Transition/Registration Marquee in the Ironman Village . This orientation will be conducted by the Ironman WA Teams Co-ordinator (TC).
  • The Team Cyclist must check-in his / her own bike in along with individual competitors on Friday 4 December between 11.30 am and 3.30pm and rack it in the allocated team position in the designated Teams area within the Bike Compound. The bike number sticker must be attached to the bike so that it is visible at least on the right hand side. (Do NOT check in the helmet but attach the helmet number to the front of the helmet and bring it to Race day registration).

TEAMS -RACE DAY REGISTRATION

Saturday 5 December 2009

All Team members MUST report to the Teams Co-coordinator (TC ) who will oversee Team Race Day Registration.

All Team members must report to the TC at the times set out below under Race Day Rules and Instructions according to the leg he/she is competing with his/her wrist band attached.

The Team swimmer must have the Team timing band attached to the left ankle. The biker and runner will be marked on the right calf with a texta pen with the letter "Z".

Only Team competitors are allowed into the Team Assembly Area Marquee precinct. Family and friends will be asked to leave the area if they enter so please advise them of this requirement to save any embarrassment they may feel when asked to leave.

All Race Day registration and tagging of Team members will take place in the Teams Assembly Area Marquee in the Transition area at the rear of the main Transition marquee.

Race/Street/Personal Gear - Team members can only check in race gear clothing (street, swim, bike, run) on Race morning at the Teams Assembly Area Marquee i.e. there is no need to check in any gear on Friday 4 December except the Team Biker who must personally check in his/her bike on Friday 4 December from 11.30am-3.30pm. The Race Organisation does not guarantee the security of your gear left in the Marquee during competition.

TEAMS - RACE DAY RULES/INSTRUCTIONS

SWIMMER
•  Ensure your Competitor wristband attached at Registration is on your wrist.
•  Wear the swim cap received in the Registration kit bag.
•  Wear the TIMING BAND received in the Registration kit bag on your left ankle.
•  Register with the TC at the Teams Assembly Area Marquee between 4.30am and 5.45am
•  You will be directed by the TC to the swim start area at 6.15 am
•  The Teams event starts at 6.30am. DO NOT START IN THE AGE GROUP WAVE OTHERWISE YOUR TEAM WILL BE CLASSIFIED AS "DID NOT FINISH" .
•  At the completion of your swim, proceed to the Teams Assembly Area Marquee to tag your bike rider.
•  You may remain within the Marquee for recovery where there will be High 5 nutrition drink, fruit and water available prior to collecting any personal gear and leaving the compound.
•  NB you will not be allowed to run down the finish chute with your runner but may meet up with your runner in the finish recovery area.

CYCLIST
•  Ensure your Competitor wristband attached at Registration is on your wrist.
•  Wear the BIKE RACE NUMBER received in the Team Registration kit bag on the back of your upper clothing.
•  Bring your helmet with you on Race morning with the helmet number sticker on the front.
•  Register with the TC at the Teams Assembly Area Marquee between 4.30am and 5.45 am
•  Between these hours proceed to your bike in the compound and prepare your bike (pump tyres, attach drink bottles etc) You can access water or High5 for your bottle/s from the Transition Aid Station located in the Transition compound.
•  Once you have prepared your bike you must leave the Transition compound by 5.45 am and report back to the TC at the
Teams Assembly Marquee no later than 7.00 am prepared and ready to be tagged by your swimmer.
•  When tagged, collect and secure the TIMING BAND to your left ankle.
•  If your swimmer fails to complete the swim leg in the cut off time you will be allowed to continue in the event but will be
the last Team competitor to start the bike leg. You may or may not have the TIMING BAND to wear. Your Team will under these circumstances be declared a Did Not Finish.
•  Proceed down beside the left side of the Main Transition Marquee to your racked bike ensuring that your helmet is securely fastened on your head before unracking your bike, unrack your bike and walk or run with your bike to the Bike Exit, mount where directed by the marshals and commence the bike leg.
•  At the end of the bike leg, dismount at the Bike Finish where directed by the marshals. A bike catcher will take your bike and rack it for you. Proceed as directed down the left hand side of the bike compound and across and down the right hand and OUT side of the main Transition Marquee to the Teams Assembly Area Marquee to tag your runner. Do not proceed through the main Transition Marquee.
•  You may remain within the Marquee for recovery where there will be High 5 nutrition drink, fruit and water available prior to collecting any personal gear and leaving the compound. While in the area you must not impede your fellow competitors in their tagging process.
•  You will collect your bike only after the bike leg closes at 4.45 pm.
•  NB you will not be allowed to run down the finish chute with your runner but may meet up with your runner in the finish recovery area.

RUNNER
•  Ensure your competitor wristband attached at Registration is on your wrist.
•  Register with the TC at the Teams Assembly Area Marquee between 9.00am and 9.30am .
•  Wear your RUN RACE NUMBER on the front of upper clothing.
•  Report back to the TC at the Teams Assembly Area Marquee at least 30 minutes prior to the estimated finish time of your biker who will make the tag. If you are not there your biker will have to wait at the Teams Assembly Area Marquee until you arrive. There will be seats available in the Teams Assembly Area Marquee for runners to wait.
•  When tagged collect and secure the TIMING BAND to your left ankle.
•  If your cyclist fails to complete the bike leg in the cut off time you will be allowed to continue in the event but will be the last Team competitor to start the run leg. You may or may not have the TIMING BAND to wear. Under these circumstances your team will be declared a Did Not Finish.
•  Proceed to the Run Exit and commence run leg.
•  You will finish down the Ironman finish chute and can proceed to the main individual Ironman competitor recovery area for refreshments.
•  Your street/personal gear can be collected from the Teams Assembly area marquee

WEDNESDAY 2 December
12.00pm - 5.00pm- Individual and Teams competitors Registration

THURSDAY 3 December
9.30am - 4.40pm- Individual and Teams competitors Registration

FRIDAY 4 December
9.30am - 10.15am- COMPULSORY Race Briefing for ALL Athletes

All Team members must attend the Compulsory Briefing
Function Marquee, Ironman Village, Barnard Park

10.30 am - Team Orientation for All Team members - Teams Assembly Area Marquee
(rear of the Registration/Transition Marquee, Ironman Village, Barnard Park)
The Ironman WA Teams Co-ordinator will explain the procedures for Team competitors.

11.30-3.30pm - Bike Check In - Bike Entry/Exit point, Marine Terrace end of Bike Compound
The Cyclist must check in his/her own bike during this period and there will be no exceptions .

SATURDAY 5 December - RACE DAY
4.30am - 5.45am Swim and bike Check In Swimmer and biker must register with the Teams Co-ordinator at the Teams Assembly Area Marquee between these times.
6.00am - Professionals Race Start, Busselton Jetty
6.15am - Age Group competitors Race Start, Busselton Jetty
6.30am - Teams Race Start, Busselton Jetty
8.45am
- Swim Course Closes for Teams.
9.00am -9.30am - Run check in. Runner must register with the Teams Co-ordinator at the Teams Assembly Area Marquee between these times.
4.45pm - Avanti Bike Course Closes for Teams.
5.00pm - 11.15pm - Bike Collection from Bike Compound, Barnard Park.
Please note - only Team Biker can collect his / her bike and must retain the secured wrist ID band for this purpose.
11.15pm - Race Finishes for Teams

SUNDAY 6 December
8.30am - 11.30am - Final Bike Collection from Bike Compound, Barnard Park.
Please note - only the Cyclist can collect his / her bike and must retain the secured ID wrist band for this purpose.
6.00pm - 1 2midnight IRONMAN WESTERN AUSTRALIA Awards Function & Meltdown Party - Function Marquee, Ironman Village, Barnard Park.

NB: All Team members are eligible to attend. The Competitor ID wristband must be worn for access. Additional tickets for this function are available for purchase from the Race Office.
